Goodbye old friend

I’m a couple of days behind on this post, because frankly, I’m still feeling the loss. Being Canadian, I knew of Robbie Robertson from his days with the Hawks. Then as a member of Bob Dylan’s touring band and of course The Band itself. I was introduced to Music from Big Pink funny enough by an Englishman.

I’ve seen it written by others that Robbie was the finest advocate of Americana even if he was a Canadian. He also never failed in his support of the Grand River Six Nations because of his family history being partially native Canadian.

While in recent years, he turned his talents to scores and soundtracks, his self titled album, Robbie Robertson, remains a regular play for me. There is magic, spirit, pain and honesty in the songs on that record and if you have not heard it, or have not listened to it in a while, you owe it to yourself to do so.

Folks die. That’s inevitable. Eighty sounds like a good life until you start being able to see it ahead of you. Then it’s far too short. For me, we’ve lost a great storyteller, musician and Canadian.

Robbie made lots of records. This one is my personal favourite. You can buy the CD, still find the vinyl and of course find it on your preferred streaming service. Go take some time for yourself and listen now. Click on the album cover to go to Apple Music
