Behringer Studio M Monitor Switcher

I mentioned that I was going to try one of these after the ongoing failures with the Mackie Big Knob Passive. Let’s be clear, this unit is a clone of the Mackie. Same big knob, but not as smooth a pot, same number of buttons, smaller and chrome over larger and grey. Same number of input and output pairs. Construction feels cheaper and for all I know, the darn thing is made in the same factory in China that makes all the Mackie stuff now.

My hope, was that this new device would be quiet when turned up to unity level, unlike the crackling, farting mess that is the Big Knob Passive.

Is it quieter? Yes. Is it silent? No. Does that bug me? Yes. Is it going back to the seller? Yes. I really don’t understand why it is so hard to make an inexpensive monitor switcher. I don’t need a volume knob, in fact, I would be happy not to have one at all.

Thus I consider this skirmish for a quiet, inexpensive two input two output monitor switcher over. I have lost and will revert back to plugging and unplugging cables because for what I am willing to pay for a freaking switch, there is nothing out there.

My rating for both maker’s offering is one star. They both switch. They are both too noisy. So my advice, don’t buy either one. Have any questions on this or other topic? Click this link to submit your question. Thanks for tuning in, and until next time, peace.
